Antique Ash, Curly Maple, & Walnut Wood Handcrafted Segmented Coffee Grinding Mill w/ Hand-Crank
Antique Style Coffee Grinder, Grinding Mill with Hand-Crank.
This is a “Segmented” Coffee Grinder took a week to glue up. There 150 pieces of Ash, Curly Maple, & Walnut glued together and was a fun project to turn on my lathe.
This Coffee Grinder is to be seen and to be appreciated. Remember there is only one of these designs making it unique. No two pieces are the same. Each will have different grain patterns and colors.
Ash varies from light brown, to pale yellow streaked with brown. The wood is generally straight-grained with a coarse uniform texture. The degree and availability of light-colored sapwood, and other properties, will vary according to the growing regions. Ash machines well, is good in nailing, screwing and gluing, and can be stained to a very good finish. It dries with minimal degrade, and there is little movement in performance. Ash has very good overall strength properties relative to its weight. It has excellent shock resistance.
Curly Maple(Tiger Maple) is traditional hard maple with a soft and flowing figure. The hard maple is the state tree of Wisconsin, Vermont, New York and West Virginia. In the North, during the cold nights and warm days of late winter, the sugar maple is tapped for its sucrose-containing sap, the source of maple syrup. Until the turn of the century, the heels of women’s shoes were made from maple. Curly Maple (Tiger Maple) has been a favorite of American furniture makers since early Colonial days..
Walnut is an all-around popular choice for woodworking with it’s deep brown texture and beautiful wavy lines. It has a fine texture and works extremely well with hand and power tools. Walnut is prized for use in furniture, cabinets, and a multitude of other projects. It is a popular choice for turning and carving as well.
